Intra-city transporters in some parts of Enugu State have decried low patronage occasioned by movement of many people to their ancestral homes for the Easter celebrations.

Investigations by our correspondent revealed that the number of people that travelled for the two last Easter celebrations combined is less than the number that went home this year for the same celebration.

It was also gathered that the arrest of one of the leaders of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Simon Ikpa which led to the reduction of crime rate in some states in the Southeast, contributed to the mass movement of people.

People were afraid to travel during the previous Easter celebrations due to insecurity in some states in the Southeast.

Many of the residents preferred to celebrate the previous Easter celebrations in Enugu because the state was better secured than other states.

Some of the transporters who spoke with our correspondent said the boom they enjoyed during the two previous Easter celebrations waned down seriously.

Mr Ogbodo Arinze who plies Ugwuaji-Ogui route threatened to park his vehicle at home till the return of those that travelled to their homes.

“My brother, since the Easter celebrations, we are experiencing low patronage because many people have traveled,” he stated.

Another transporter, Clifford Uwakwe collaborated what Arinze said, adding that they had never experienced the kind of low patronage they were experiencing this Easter period.
