Both chambers of the National Assembly have postponed the resumption date from Sallah and Easter breaks to May 6, 2025, a week after April 29, 2025, earlier fixed.

The extension of the holiday is coming amid current security concerns in the country which require urgent legislative decisions.

The Senate and the House of Representatives had adjourned plenary on March 27, 2025, until April 29, 2025, for Sallah and Easter break.

However, about eight days before the earlier resumption date, both chambers, through the Clerk to the National Assembly (CNA), Barrister Kamoru Ogunlana, announced a week-long postponement of resumption to allow distinguished senators and honourable members to observe May 1 (Workers’ Day) with their constituents in their various constituencies.

The CNA in a personally signed statement dated 21st April 2025 said, “I am directed to inform distinguished senators, honourable members, and the general public that the two Houses of the National Assembly have extended the date for the resumption of plenary sessions from Tuesday, 29th April 2025, to Tuesday, 6th May 2025.

“This extension allows distinguished senators and honourable members to participate in the Workers’ Day ceremony and attend to other engagements in their constituencies.
