OPay, one of the nation’s leading financial institutions, has extended its N1.2 billion 10-year scholarship initiative to the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), furthering its commitment to empowering the next generation of Nigerian leaders.

With this latest milestone, UNILORIN becomes the newest beneficiary of the ambitious nationwide program aimed at removing financial barriers for academically gifted students. The initiative not only provides relief to students grappling with tuition and living expenses but also underscores OPay’s long-term vision of nurturing talent and driving socio-economic progress through education.

OPay’s managing director, Dauda Gotring described the scholarship as a strategic investment in Nigeria’s future.

“This ₦1.2 billion 10-year scholarship program is not only about supporting today’s students but about investing in Nigeria’s future. We are committed to nurturing the brilliant minds who will shape the nation’s progress for years to come,” Gotring added.

The partnership was formalised during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at UNILORIN.

Expressing his appreciation, the university’s vice chancellor, Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, lauded the initiative as timely and impactful.

“We would like to express our gratitude to OPay for their remarkable scholarship initiative to support our students here at UNILORIN. This initiative shows that OPay is aligning with the education agenda of the federation,” Egbewole asserted.

The scholarship initiative, which has already reached students in several tertiary institutions across the country, reflects OPay’s evolving role beyond digital finance—positioning itself as a catalyst for educational empowerment and youth development.

As the programme continues to expand, OPay remains steadfast in its mission to build a brighter, more inclusive future—one student at a time.
