A ranking member representing Ohafia North constituency in Abia State House of Assembly, Mandela Obasi, has vowed to stick to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Obasi told LEADERSHIP Weekend after hosting Abia North PDP stakeholders to a meeting at his Abiriba country home in Ohafia local government area, that  his stand was irrevocable.

This came as the PDP has been hit by defections including three members of the House since it lost the 2023 governorship election to Labour Party (LP).

The former speaker of the House and son of an erstwhile governor of the state, Chinedum Enyinnaya and other members had earlier defected to the APC.

The third term lawmaker maintained that he would be the last man standing in the PDP that governed the state for over 22 years out of the 24 before the LP since 1999.

“For me, it’s PDP or no other party because it’s on its platform that I became what I am today politically. I can’t bite the gingers that fed me or turn by back on the PDP,” he noted.

He asserted that he was sure that what was happening in the PDP in the state and even beyond would soon end, noting that he was confident that the PDP would bounce back.

“Come 2027, the PDP will not only retain this seat, but will go ahead to clear all the seats in Abia North and form the next government of the state,” he said.

Obasi, who claimed that the PDP has the largest grassroots support, membership and most visible and strongest structure in the state, urged the zone to have faith in the PDP.
