The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has promised to build a Secondary School at Sagbokoji, a riverine island in the Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area, Lagos State.

The School, when completed, will be the first-ever Secondary school on the Island.

This was disclosed by the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, during the commissioning of the renovated Local Authority Nursery and Primary School and health centre and the distribution of educational materials such as school bags, books, and others to the school under the Customs’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), also known as Customs Cares.

The customs boss said President Bola Tinubu had established the school. At the same time, he was the governor of Lagos 20 years ago, and he said it was gratifying that an agency under him has come to upgrade its standards and infrastructure.

The customs boss informed us that the service had engaged in a broader consultation with the host community and school management before deciding to rehabilitate the school and the health centre.

He noted that the projects—education and healthcare—are one of the cores of the Customs Cares mandate, pointing out that the Service had bought exercise books, writing materials, and bags to be distributed to all the pupils.

His words, “The School was established by President Bola Tinubu when he was the executive Governor of Lagos State. Interestingly, an Agency under him has returned over twenty years after the school was established to take a look at the school and upgrade the standard and infrastructure of its facilities. I’m happy to be here this afternoon to identify the school’s primary needs.

“Before selecting the school, extensive consultation was made, and rigorous processes were taken before we carried out the renovation. This is just as the Customs Area Controller of Apapa, Comptroller Babatunde Olomu, has said. CSR exercises drive the project, and one of its areas is education and health.

“In education, we are undertaking projects that will directly impact our students. You can see the exercise books, textbooks, sandals, and school bags we brought for the school’s students.

Apart from those directly impacting students, we have also improved the infrastructure where we see deficiencies and decided to renovate the entire school. I am happy that we have delivered on this project through our partners and the Stakeholders.”
