The Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement Alumni Association of Nigeria (FTEAAAN) has organised a two-day workshop on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other new teaching and learning skills for 100 secondary school teachers drawn from public secondary schools in the country.

The association said under its peer training initiative, it has trained about 20,000 Nigerian secondary school teachers, mostly virtually, on new teaching and learning skills.

FTEAAAN president, Awolanye Banigo, who spoke yesterday during the opening of the 2025 edition of the training workshop in Port Harcourt, said no fewer than seven of the 20,000 trained teachers have won both local and continental awards.

Banigo stated that while five have shown strong presence in the GEMS Global Teacher Prize, Olalekan Adeeko won the Microsoft Most Valuable Professional in Excel in 2024.

She further stated that peer-led professional development is not just helpful but essential at a time when the country’s education system is facing many challenges.

The FTEAAAN president said, “Our association is proud to have some of the outstanding educators in Nigeria and across Africa. On the global scale, our alumni have also shown strong presence in the GEMS Global Teacher’s Prize. And in EdTech, Olalekan Adeeko stands out as a Microsoft Most Valuable Professional in Excel 2024.
