World Press Day: Imasuen Reaffirms Commitment To Media Rights

Senator Neda Imasuen has marked World Press Freedom Day with a strong message of support for journalists, lauding their resilience and reaffirming the critical role of press freedom in sustaining democracy.

In a statement released to coincide with the global observance, the Senator praised media professionals in Edo State, Nigeria, and across the world for their dedication to providing accurate and timely information despite facing increasing challenges.

“Journalists are the backbone of democratic accountability,” Senator Imasuen said. “Their work in informing the public and holding those in power to account is indispensable, especially in times when truth is often under threat.”

Acknowledging the rapid evolution of the media landscape, Imasuen noted that while digital technologies and social media have expanded the reach of journalism, they have also created new problems, particularly the proliferation of misinformation.
