Former Kano State governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has taken a swipe at those who  recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) after benefitting from the massive support of the Kwankwasiyya during the last general elections and winning elections.

Kwankwaso spoke in Kano on Friday while receiving supporters of Sen. Kawu Sumaila from Takai local government area at his residence to declare their loyalty to the movement.

Receiving the loyalists who are also members of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Kwankwaso in his speech welcomed them while also expressing happiness with their “home-coming” and declared those that left the movement for the APC as betrayers.

“We all know the history of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and what happened when some oppressors distorted the movement, especially during the last two general elections.

“This is a movement for the people and a movement for those who reason, it is not a money-making venture. Under this movement the poor have come to understand that they don’t need money or some gifts to vote for anybody.

“It is now such that you have betrayed those who you benefitted from, those who refused bribes and gifts of spaghetti and money to vote for you.

“Unfortunately you have now dumped the people that voted for you and accepted bribe from those whose bribe they have rejected to vote for you.

“I assure you that this will not persist as the time for judgement will soon come when you will realise that you have made the wrong decision,” he said.

“You have betrayed the trust of the people that voted for you and they are aware of this betrayal. It does not pay to fight against the Kwankwasiyya Movement,” he stated.

Kwankwaso further advised the loyalists to unite in their senatorial zones with all the supporters of the movement which he said was meant to redeem the poor.

Sen. Kawu Sumaila, representing Kano South Senatorial District, had joined the Kwankwasiyya Movement under the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) during the last general elections and was elected as the senator representing Kano South, but recently declared that he had dumped the NNPP for the  APC.

The secretary of the group from Takai local government, Sunusi Hukuma, stated that they had been with the Kwankwasiyya Movement since its early days and had been loyal to the movement.

“We will continue to be loyal to the Kwankwasiyya Movement because we supported the senator because he joined the movement and contested.

“Now that he has left the movement, we have come before our beloved leader to reiterate our loyalty to the leadership of Kwankwasiyya, where we have been and will remain forever,” he stated.

Hajiya Zulai Muhammad, a female loyalist from Takai, promised Kwankwaso to continue all efforts to ensure that they promote the will of the political movement.

“We shall remain with you as our leader and we know why we have come to reiterate this reality and register our commitment,” she stated.

At the end of the event, the loyalists from Takai local government removed their caps and the Kwankwasiyya red caps were placed on their heads while the females received red veils.
