About 1,539 delegates from 20 local government areas and 37 LCDAs in Lagos, on Saturday, participated in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries to elect 57 chairmanship candidates for the local government election which comes up on July 12,2025.

The delegates were made up of 27 from each of the 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs in the state.

Moreover, delegates from four out of the 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas have affirmed their candidates for the primaries.

The candidates affirmed are Hon. Isa Abiola Jubril for Iba LCDA, Hon. Azeez Kareem of Oto Awori LCDA, Hon. Motunrayo Gbadebo, Ijede LCDA and Hon. Razak Kasali as chairmanship candidate for Lekki LCDA.

The delegates were ushered into the voting hall to affirm their consensus candidates following the open declaration.

Assuring the delegates of a hitch-free election, the state’s deputy governor, Dr Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat said the primary election would be a free, credible and transparent exercise.

He assured delegates that their votes would count, urging them to be peaceful and comport themselves in a calm and orderly manner during and after the exercise.

He said, “The President is monitoring what we are doing because this is his state. As we are here, let’s be calm. We will go in and exercise our voting right and the vote will count. LASIEC is watching. It is a peace process. Let’s do it peacefully and quickly and we will go.

“We are the only party in Lagos. The umbrella has torn apart. Let’s be calm and do it right.”

The accreditation of party delegates started by 8 am while security men were stationed at the entrance of the party secretariat to screen those coming in and to forestall a breakdown of law and order.

Earlier in his address, the chairman of the Electoral Committee, Babatunde Ogala (SAN), assured delegates of a transparent and unbiased exercise.
