A non-governmental organisation under the aegis of Evidence Action has announced plans to commence deworming of approximately about 912,854 school-aged children in 2025.
Senior manager of Evidence Action, Mr Toochi Ohaji, announced this during an interactive session with newsmen on Saturday in Calabar.
Toochi who spoke in company of the coordinator of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) in the Cross River State Ministry of Health, Veronica Mark, stated that the organisation aims to ensure that children at risk are free from intestinal worms, enabling them to lead healthier and more productive lives.
The programme manager who called for collaboration emphasised the need for increased government commitment and media engagement to sustain awareness and drive the program’s success.
The NGO which claimed to have experience in providing technical support to Nigeria’s school-based deworming programme, is set to kick-start the deworming campaign on May 14, 2025 across 14 out of the 18 local government areas of Cross River State.
On the objectives of the exercise, the programme manager averred that the organisation’s mission is to improve the health and well-being of children by controlling and eliminating intestinal worm infections.
“By deworming these children, Evidence Action hopes to enhance their overall quality of life and enable them to reach their full potential,” Toochi stated.
