In a bid to step up efforts to boost electricity supply in Ekiti State, the state government has taken delivery of equipment and accessories from the federal government for the two 132/33 kv stations, along with transmission lines to the state.

The state commissioner for Infrastructure and Public Utilities, Prof. Bolaji Aluko, while receiving the equipment on behalf of Transmission Corporation of Nigeria (TCN) at the Omisanjana 132/33kv station in Ado-Ekiti, said the substations will be installed in Ilupeju Ekiti and Ijesa Isu Ekiti.

Aluko, the Ekiti TCN General Manager, Engr, was accompanied. Victor Famoroti said this is to improve the transmission of bulk power supply to the state’s North and other senatorial districts, with a switching station at Ikere.

The commissioner, who commended the federal government and Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, for fast-tracking the two substations projects, said the additional substations, which are aimed at revolutionizing Ekiti State’s power sector, will serve as a 240MVA total addition (four new transformers of 60MVA each) to the 140 MVA-3-transformers Omisanjana substation in Ado-Ekiti.

While adding that the project will be completed before the end of the year, Prof Aluko said, “Those two stations will be like the Omisanjana station where we are standing right now. This project has been going on for almost three years, and more of the equipment has become increasingly available. About four or five months ago, a set of trucks like this consignment came in.

“They were delivered at Ijesa Isu, Ikere and Ilupeju, but this is the largest group that has come in now, 15 trucks of various kinds of equipment, poles, wires, and transformers. These things are in these trucks and containers and will be offloaded in the next few days.

“You know, this work takes a while. I’m sure it will still take about six months for full installation. You know, you do installation, pole installation, wiring, testing, and so on. We are hopeful that by the end of this year, it will be ready. We’ve been waiting for three years, and so, we can still wait until the end of the year.”
