Tragedy befell the Ogun State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Monday following the death of a female broadcast journalist, Mrs Bukola Agbakaizu, who died in office while preparing to take over afternoon shift duty in Abeokuta, the state capital.

The late Agbakaizu, who was an Ex-Offcio member of the Ogun State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), was said to have slumped in one of the studios of the Ogun State Television (OGTV), and later pronounced dead by the doctor on duty at the Federal Medical Center (FMC), Idi-Aba, Abeokuta where she was rushed to for medical attention.

A source close to the deceased at the OGTV Broadcasting Complex in Ajebo Road, Abeokuta, told LEADERSHIP that the ace broadcaster never exhibited any sickness before her death but was full of life and ready to assume the afternoon shift duty.

LEADERSHIP, however, gathered that the deceased mother of two had previously been on HBP routine drugs, which she was faithfully administering before the sad incident occurred on Monday.

Meanwhile, the state chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has expressed shock over the late Mrs. Agbakaizu’s sudden death, who is described as a “consummate and dedicated staff” of the state-owned television station.

In a condolence statement issued yesterday in Abeokuta by NAWOJ and signed by its state Chairperson, Sekinat Salam, the association said late Agbakaizu’s death was “a painful and bitter pill to swallow”.

The statement further stated that the 52-year-old mother of two would be sorely missed for her love, compassion for others, and passion for journalism.

“Ogun NAWOJ received the news of Mrs Bukola Agbakaizu with a rude shock. Her death came when her experience and exemplary leadership would be needed by the association.’’
