Insecurity: Kwara Adopts Colour Codes For Public Transport

The Kwara State government has rolled out colour codes for commercial vehicles in the state, as means of identification to ensure the safety of passengers.

Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Aliyu Korasabi disclosed this during a consultative meeting held at the Ministry’s headquarters on Wednesday in Ilorin, the state capital.

The meeting was attended by the leadership of all road transporters’ unions, representatives of security agencies and the management staff of all agencies under the ministry.

The commissioner who reaffirmed the commitment of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to the preservation of unity, harmony and peace in the state, said security remained the hallmark that could facilitate progress and prosperity of every citizen.

He urged all transporters to fully embrace the colour codes as a way of complementing government’s effort in promoting an enabling ethical standard in the transport sector.

Korasabi disclosed that the government has resolved yellow colour with green stripes for all transporters working on shuttle buses and tricycles as intra-state transport while green with the stripe of white will be the identity for inter-state vehicles.

Subject to this announcement, the commissioner said it has become imperative for all transport unions to comply with the new state colour codes unanimously adopted on Wednesday, 14th May, 2025.

“Transporters will have till 30th of September, 2025 for full compliance, after which, violation to the rule shall attract serious sanctions”, he added.

Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Alh. Kabir Salahu lauded the leadership of the road transport unions for their cooperation with the government, assuring them of the ministry’s maximum support.

Chairman of Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) in the state, Alh. AbdulRahman Onikijipa, commended the government for the bold step, noting that the measure will help to identify vehicles from Kwara and set them apart from vehicles from other states to reduce transportation-related atrocities.

Similarly, chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alh. AbdulRazaq Ariwoola also expressed support for the initiative.

For their parts, the chairman of Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria (TOAN), Alh. Saliu Gidado and his counterpart with the National Association of Cooperative Transporters (NACT), Comrade Abdulazeez Agaka as well as the vice chairman of Nigeria Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), Alh. Abdullahi Atere, applauded Governor AbdulRazaq for his strides at ensuring security of lives and property in the state.
