Forward Paul Joseph was the cynosure of spectators as he recorded the first hat-trick of the games.

Paul scored the three goals in the first half to ensure that the 2018 champions of the National Sports Festival football event had a commanding grip on the match.

The resumption of the second half saw Borno State scoring a goal but Titus Meshach Waziri ensured that the game was put beyond the “Home of Peace” boys as he made it 4-1 on the 75th minute.

Speaking after the victory, Assistant Coach of the FCT and former Super Falcons star, Coach Mary Godspower Benny told journalists that the result put the team in good stead going into the football event.

“We emphasised the importance of starting on a good note and the players stuck to the game plans. Although we should have won with greater margin, but being the first game, we will go back and work on our lapses before our next game on Tuesday,” she said.

Captain of the team, Achu Gabriel, commended his teammates for the great performance, adding that the team will remain focused to reclaim the trophy that last won in 2018.

The FCT male football team will face the host, Ogun State in their 2nd group match on Tuesday.
