The Kano State Executive Council has approved a total expenditure of N36,705,324,242.34 to execute critical projects across the state.

The Council also approved N450,000,000.00 as supplementary logistics and other expenditures for the 2025 Hajj operations in Saudi Arabia. Approval was also granted for upgrading the convocation arena at Aliko Dangote University of Science & Technology, Wudil (Phase I) at N126,199,628.54.

A statement issued by the Hon. Commissioner, Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, said the approvals were made during the 28th meeting on Monday, during which several key other matters of governance and development were extensively deliberated.

The construction of a mosque at the Government House, Kano, was approved at N269,447,115.39, while renovation works at the Private and Voluntary Organisations Board, Wudil Road, Kano, were approved at N129,517,058.39.

The statement said to support education, the Council approved N3,178,225,400.00 for the sponsorship of Kano State indigenes for NECO, NABTEB, and AIED/NBIAS examinations, and N1,678,521,098.88 as the State’s counterpart contribution for the “FGN-UBE Matching Grant” for Q1 2025.

“N317,598,771.46 was approved to compensate affected properties at the 330kV TCN Substation, Rimin Zakara. The Council also approved N4,000,545,000.00 to procure 199,000 bags of fertiliser for the 2025 wet season farming programme and N427,730,335.74 for flood control at Rijiyar Zaki along Gwarzo Road.

‘N160,000,000.00 was approved for procuring a Toyota Hilux pick-up and a Toyota Hiace bus for the North West Development Commission.

The reconstruction of road networks in Gwale LGA, including Kwanar T/Wazirci, Gwale ‘Yan Alewa, Mandawari Junction and others, was approved at N1,705,807,390.06.

‘The Council approved N123,636,804.05 for the extension and repair of an eroded culvert in Dankunkuru, Nassarawa LGA, and N164,661,031.73 for the construction of two RC box culverts along Soro Daya–Yan Awaki–Asayaya Road in Tsanyawa LGA.

‘The settlement of diesel supply bills for April 2025 by different vendors was approved at N723,400,000.00. An approval of N260,000,000.00 was granted for the 2025 drainage clearance exercise and the launch of the “Desilt Kano Campaign,” the statement added.

It said N204,248,399.84 was approved for renovating the wall fence at the Female Hostel and constructing a new fence at Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Dambatta. In contrast, N182,980,000.00 was agreed to settle outstanding tuition fees for the 2013/2014 teacher upgrading programme.

“The revocation and re-award of the contract for the completion of a 5km dual carriageway in Ajingi LGA was approved at N4,347,710,789.29, and N6,868,951,609.84 was approved for the construction of the Dansoshiya Dam and Irrigation Infrastructure Project in Kiru LGA.

‘The Council also approved N1,803,378,236.48 for the dualisation of Audu Sambo Road from AA Rano Filling Station to Gandun Albasa, and N2,927,737,275.65 for the re-award of the 5km dualised road in Bunkure LGA.

‘The re-award of the 5km dualised road in Kura LGA was approved at N3,207,480,443.31. Additionally, the Council approved N1,472,532,983.71 to expand the scope of companies undertaking road markings, crash barrier painting and maintenance work.

‘A sum of N1,999,984,946.53 was approved for the 2025 Special Intervention Projects in some Local Government Areas. The Council approved N354,252,878.29 for the completion of the abandoned ultra-modern Women Centre at K/Na’isa, Filin Mahaha, and N196,976,673.70 for the upgrading of the Gyadi-Gyadi Women Centre.

‘In addition, the Council approved setting up a Special Committee to develop modalities for decongesting prisons, including Oversight of prisons and remand homes. Engagement of inmates in economic activities and a Public awareness campaign against criminal behaviours,” the statement added.

The committee members include the Hon. Commissioner and the Justice (Chairman).

Hon. Commissioner, Internal Security & Special Services Hon. Commissioner, Women Affairs, Hon. Commissioner, Science, Technology & Innovation, Hon. Commissioner, Religious Affairs, Controller, Correctional Service, Kano, Chairperson, Committee on Prerogative of Mercy, Representative, State Judiciary, Representative, Nigeria Police Force and the Representative, Ministry for Local Government Shehu Abdullahi (Human Rights Commission).

Furthermore, the Council approved the revocation of 5km road projects in Garun Mallam, Madobi, T/Wada, Tsanyawa, Kura, Bebeji, Bunkure, and Ajingi LGAs due to non-performance or non-completion.

“His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, also swore in AVM Ibrahim Umaru (Rtd.) as the new Commissioner for Internal Security and Special Services.

“Witnessed the presentation of three merit awards to His Excellency the Governor from the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) and Daily News Agency as Best Governor of the Year and Authentic Humanitarian Governor 2024.

“The meeting witnessed the signing into law of the Water Users Associations Law 2025, approval of the transmission of the following Bills to the State House of Assembly:

“Kano State Tourism Management Board Amendment Bill 2025, Kano State Zoological and Wildlife Management Agency Amendment Bill 2025 and  Kano State History and Culture Bureau Amendment Bill 2025 for Information and Internal Affairs Kano State,” the statement said.
