Police Kill 5 Suspected Kidnappers, Arrest Others In Jigawa

Operatives of Jigawa State Police Command have stormed the camps of suspected kidnappers around Garki and Sule Tankarkar local government areas of the state, killing five and arresting five suspects after a heavy gun battle.

The state commissioner of police AT Abdullahi, revealed this while briefing newsmen on the operation of the command across the state.

He revealed that, on May 16, 2025, at about 12 hour they received an intelligence report that, a gang of suspected kidnappers numbering about 12 on motorcycles had barged into the house of one Mrs Hajiya Hajara an 80-year-old woman of Munjibir local government, Kano State and kidnapped her.

The commissioner noted that the information gathered revealed that the suspected kidnappers carried the old woman to a bush around Danzom and Garki area, used as their den for terrorising people.

The CP stated that upon receiving the intelligence information, they mobilised policemen from Garki, Gumel Gagarawa, Maigatari, and Sule Tankarkar command and conducted the operation with support from Vigilante, Hunters Association, and Yanbulala.

According to him, the operation led to the rescue of the kidnapped victims in good health, while five members of a notorious kidnapping syndicate lost their lives, and another five suspects were arrested, including the kingpin, Yahya, 35, of Katore Fulani settlement, Garki LGA, who sustained a leg injury.

“ The recovery made during the encounter included Two (2) AK-47 rifles, One (1) Multipurpose Machine Gun , Fourteen (14) live ammunition, Two (2) motorcycles, Three (3) mobile handsets suspected to belong to victims and/or suspects,” CP stated.

He, however, revealed that 14 suspects were arrested on alleged criminal conspiracy and possession of hard drugs during a police raid conducted at black spots and criminal hideouts in Sara town and Gwaram Sabuwa, both in Gwaram LGA.

The recovery made during the raids included 380 pieces of Exol 5, 330 D5 Valium, 44 pieces of Tramadol, 84 pieces of Robber Solution, a large quantity of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, and three litres of Sock and Die.

The Jigawa State Police Command also arrested one Abdulhamid Aliyu, a 40-year-old resident of Sara town, for allegedly locking up and torturing his biological son, Aliyu Abdulhamid, aged 7. The boy was reportedly detained by his father for five days, beginning on April 29, 2025, during which he sustained multiple injuries to his face, body, and feet. The victim was rescued by the police and immediately taken to FMC Birnin Kudu for medical treatment.

In a separate operation, the police arrested Halilu Da’u (25), Abubakar Abdullahi (20), Muazu Aliyu (25), and Mu’azu Garba (21) — all residents of Sundumina town in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area. The suspects were found in possession of 163 counterfeit $100 US dollar notes, along with two genuine $100 US dollar notes.
