It brought together industry leaders and stakeholders in a bid to reshape the narrative about Nigeria’s cleaning sector.

The event, hosted by the Prime Environment Cleaners Network Association of Nigeria—widely known as The Cleaners Network Association—was themed “The Future of the Cleaning Industry.” It centered on key issues including environmental sustainability, innovation, and climate action, highlighting a rising commitment among a new generation of cleaners to adapt and lead in a rapidly evolving industry.

Barrister Yakubu Mohammed Yazeed, president of the Prime Environment Cleaners Network Association, noted that this year’s forum, held simultaneously across the country, aimed not only to equip cleaners with essential skills and knowledge but also to shift mindsets towards embracing sustainable environmental practices.

He underscored cleaners’ vital role in environmental preservation and urged the industry to adopt innovative methods aligned with climate action goals.

Speaking on behalf of the director-general of the National Climate Change Secretariat, Hajiya Halima Bawa Bwari emphasised the urgent need for sustainable practices in the cleaning sector and recognised cleaners as critical actors in the climate action movement.

Representing the director-general of the Abuja Environmental Protection Board, Sanitarian Rachel Omenta stressed the importance of community engagement in addressing waste management challenges. She noted that many areas in Abuja lack proper waste disposal infrastructure, and cleaners’ participation in community clean-up initiatives can significantly improve environmental outcomes.

From the Environmental Health Council of Nigeria, Obitolu Stephen, representing the director of registration and licensing, called for the professionalisation of the industry. He encouraged cleaning service providers to register with the council to promote structure and credibility within the sector.

As headline sponsor, Makita Power Tools showcased a wide range of innovative tools designed to revolutionize cleaning operations across Nigeria.

The cleaners forum continues to serve as a platform for cleaners nationwide, offering opportunities to learn, connect, and grow. With upcoming editions scheduled for Lagos, Port Harcourt, and Asaba, the African and Nigerian cleaning industry is poised for significant transformation, with the Prime Environment Cleaners Network Association leading the charge towards a cleaner, greener future.

The forum attracted key partners including Makita Power Tools, Fairmoney Microfinance Bank, the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB), the Environmental Health Council of Nigeria (EHCON), and the National Climate Change Secretariat (NCCS).
