Labour Party Aspirant Vows To Champion Grassroots Politics

A chairmanship aspirant under the platform of the Labour Party in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Comrade Ifeanyichukwu Ajaegbu, has declared his intention to contest the upcoming Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) election, pledging to be a true grassroots politician.

Speaking during a formal declaration at the Labour Party Secretariat in Abuja, Ajaegbu, fondly called the “White Lion” by his supporters, emphasized his commitment to the masses and the party’s founding ideology.

“I want to be a grassroots politician, not just a politician, but somebody who has the masses in mind. Somebody who has the Labour Party at heart. Somebody who in all ramifications has said that the Labour Party must move forward—not only the party, but Nigeria and the world at large,” he said.

Ajaegbu, who was warmly received by party stakeholders, said his ambition was born out of consistency and character, adding that despite competing with over 15 other aspirants, he remained the last man standing.

He recalled his early visit to the party secretariat in 2023 to declare his interest and noted that while others were busy “showing muscles,” he remained focused and consistent.

“This proves consistency in character. You need someone you can trust who has proven himself over time. I have done that consistently for three years,” he said.

Ajaegbu described the Labour Party as the only party rooted in ideology and committed to the welfare of ordinary Nigerians.

He urged members not to be swayed by money politics and flashy campaigns, but to remain faithful to the party’s principles.

Speaking during the event, chairman of the FCT Labour Party, Chief Peter Chukwuemeka Diugwu, praised Ajawgbu’s courage and dedication, particularly for purchasing the N8 million nomination form with his personal resources.

“This is not a small thing. Some of his mates are still looking for one or two million to start a business,” he said.

Diugwu emphasized that the Labour Party in FCT remains grassroots-based with presence in every polling unit, and is committed to conducting a free, fair, and credible primary election.

“There is no anointed candidate. Go to the field and work. If you win, nobody will change your name,” he declared.

He added that the upcoming area council election would serve as a litmus test for the 2027 general elections, urging party faithfuls to stay united and focused.

The event ended with a symbolic presentation of the nomination form to Ajaegbu and a prayer led by party officials, signaling the official start of his campaign journey.
