Nigerian singer, Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, has spoken candidly about the split from his twin brother and musical partner, Paul Okoye (Rudeboy), marking another chapter in the saga of the iconic P-Square duo.
In a recent interview on Cool FM Lagos, Mr P revealed that despite their efforts to stay united, maintaining the duo was no longer sustainable. He emphasized the personal satisfaction he’s found in pursuing a solo career and urged fans to respect their choice.
He said, “There’s a joy that comes with going solo. Please respect our decisions. We’ve tried it, it’s not working,” hinting that their reunion was a good faith effort that simply couldn’t withstand underlying challenges.
LEADERSHIP Sunday recalls that P-Square, who originally split in 2016 following a series of internal family and managerial disputes, reunited briefly in 2021 to the excitement of fans worldwide. Their comeback included new music and joint performances, sparking hope that the legendary duo had turned a new leaf.
However, cracks resurfaced, and in August 2023, Paul Okoye confirmed the group had parted ways again.
While fans hoped for another resolution, Peter’s recent comments suggest the split may be final this time.
Despite their differences, both artists have continued to enjoy success in their solo careers, each carving out a distinct identity in the Nigerian music scene.
