After National Headquarters Closure, PDP Moves NEC Meeting To Campaign Office

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has moved its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting to its presidential campaign office, popularly called Legacy House, in Abuja.

The meeting which will be held on Tuesday comes after the continuation of a caucus meeting at the Bauchi Governor’s lodge in Abuja.

Recall that the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) on Monday sealed the Wadata Plaza national headquarters of PDP over failure to pay ground rent.

The Acting National Chairman of PDP, Amb Umar Damagum, speaking after the caucus meeting on Monday, described the closure of its national headquarters as an act of irresponsibility by the federal government.

Damagum further warned the government to stop encouraging such acts, noting that it would not be taken lightly.

However, President Bola Tinubu had intervened and gave PDP and other defaulters a two-week grace period to pay the rent.

The NEC was expected to address critical issues affecting the party, including the national secretary position, holding of early convention, crisis over congresses in states, South-South zonal leadership, among others.

Meanwhile, the Conference of Professionals in the PDP (CP-PDP) while confirming that the NEC will hold said it is in contact with “the National Working Committee (NWC) and members of NEC and can further confirm that the party leaders and stakeholders are on the same page that there is no encumbrance against the holding of NEC meeting today, having been duly and publicly summoned in line with the provision of the Constitution of the PDP.”

Protem National Coordinator, CP-PDP, Barr. Obinna Nwachukwu said, “The meeting of NEC, the second highest decision-making body of the PDP has become imperative to address pertinent issues, stabilise the party and strengthen the commitment of members to unity, discipline and adherence to rules.

“The CP-PDP commends the members of NWC, the PDP Governors’ Forum, the PDP Board of Trustees, the National Assembly Caucus, State Party Chairmen and other critical stakeholders for standing firm on the holding of NEC today.

“The CP-PDP reaffirms its commitment to the unity and stability of our party at all times,” he said.
