The Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department (FEMD) confirmed that the two injured persons were responding to treatment at the National Hospital, Abuja.

In a statement, FEMD’s Acting Director-General, Engr. Abdulrahman Mohammed, disclosed that the body of the deceased young man had been handed over to his family by the FCT Police Command and FEMD’s Search and Rescue Team.

Mohammed stated that the victims, who were members of the same family, were standing by the roadside when the crash occurred.

“The accident occurred at approximately 6:30 pm when a Coca-Cola beverage truck suffered brake failure, ramming into multiple vehicles before colliding with a construction company truck.

“Both truck drivers escaped unhurt, and a female customs officer whose vehicle was crushed by the Coca-Cola truck also emerged without injuries.

“Personnel from FEMD, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the FCT Police Command swiftly responded to conduct rescue operations,” he said.

The FEMD boss urged motorists to exercise caution, emphasising, “Drivers must ensure their vehicles are in good condition to prevent such tragedies.”

He further advised residents to dial the 112 emergency toll-free number during emergencies.

The incident has intensified road safety concerns, with authorities calling for stricter adherence to vehicle maintenance regulations.
