The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has engaged stakeholders in Adamawa State to prepare for floods during the rainy season.

During the NEMA Stakeholders Engagement on National Preparedness and Response Campaign 2025, the stakeholders gave updates on their preparedness and suggested improvements that they considered necessary in various sectors for enhanced capacities.

Among the stakeholders were the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA), the various security agencies, and representatives of relevant nongovernment organisations.

Malam Abbani Imam Garki, who leads the 2025 National Preparedness Response Committee (NPRC), stressed the need for all efforts to be sustained by all stakeholders to prevent flood or to act promptly to mitigate the effects of flood where it may happen.

Part of the engagement in Adamawa State was a tour of flood-prone communities, including the Bakin Kogi in the capital, Yola, for community-level sensitization.

Also, as part of the sensitisation efforts, the Abbani Garki-led NEMA Adamawa/Taraba 2025 NPRC Team visited the Adamawa State deputy governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, at her office.

Abani Garki explained that the visit to the deputy governor was to formally engage the state government on the objectives of the 2025 NPRC exercise and to foster collaboration between NEMA and the Adamawa State Government in strengthening disaster preparedness and emergency response mechanisms.

Malam Abbani emphasised the critical role of state-level partnership in achieving effective disaster risk reduction and resilience.

In her remark, the deputy governor commended NEMA’s proactive initiatives and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting national emergency preparedness and response efforts.
