Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has urged residents to protect public infrastructure as the government prepares to commission 19 completed projects across the territory.

Making the call during an inspection tour of ongoing projects in Gwagwalada, Kwali and Ushafa communities of the FCT yesterday, the minister warned against vandalism of government infrastructure.

He spoke alongside former House of Representatives deputy speaker, Prince Chibudom Nwuche, who hailed the transformation of Abuja under Wike’s leadership.

Addressing journalists after the inspection, Wike noted the visible impact of infrastructure on communities.

“First of all, government has provided the infrastructure, it is now for residents to own it to ensure sustainability.  People must not vandalise what has been provided. For example, we are providing street-lights, residents need to help secure them.

“It would be wrong if we return tomorrow to find poles vandalised and wires stolen. If we own this property as our community, this won’t happen. Government has done its part by making life meaningful, residents must now protect these facilities,” he said.

When asked to identify his favorite among projects slated for commissioning, Wike said, “All are dear. None is more important because each affects people’s lives differently.  If I choose the International Conference Centre, villagers will ask how it benefits them. Every project being commissioned is important as long as it positively impacts lives.”

The minister expressed excitement on rural road projects connecting farmlands,

“Today, I am very happy seeing the completed A2-Pai road. When we flagged off the Pai-Gomani extension, it was impassable.

“Now, we shouldn’t be talking about food security in Nigeria, look at the land and water available! With President Tinubu’s leadership, you’ll see changes.

“I have directed the Satellite Towns Development coordinator to extend the road 13km to Yangoji towards Lokoja. When completed, this 40-plus kilometer network will transform the area and attract investors to mechanised farming.

“People now appreciate Asiwaju Tinubu’s government because they see its impact. When you bring positive change, people naturally respond with happiness. Good governance begets public appreciation,” he said.

Prince Chibudom Nwuche, who accompanied Wike, expressed amazement at Abuja’s development pace.

“The level of work in under two years is incredible. Abuja is becoming a true world-class city, with development reaching both urban and rural areas. The farmlands we saw in Kwali show the territory’s agricultural potential.

“The standards are world-class – you can see it in the roads. Had we maintained this pace since 1999, Abuja would be far more advanced. Among all FCT ministers, Wike has made the most significant impact,” he said.
