Katsina State Water Board has refuted recent media portrayals of Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda’s newly commissioned water infrastructure project, describing them as deliberate attempts to downplay a landmark development.

In a statement by the board’s managing director, Engr Hassan Tingling, the media was accused of misrepresenting the initiative as “mere borehole commissioning,” ignoring the true scale and impact of the intervention.

“What Governor Radda commissioned is not a simple borehole,” Tingling said, “It is a comprehensive water supply system across eight key locations in Katsina metropolis, designed to restore access to over 55,000 residents.”

“The multi-billion naira project includes 80 solar-powered boreholes, each with a yield of at least 0.6 litres per second. These are fitted with AC/DC submersible pumps and powered by monocrystalline solar panels with a total output of 112,000 watts.

“Additionally, the scheme features newly constructed steel water tanks—360m³ and 225m³ in capacity—mounted on 12-metre towers, as well as a 15-kilometre reticulation network using UPVC pipes.

“Beneficiary areas include the Federal Teaching Hospital Housing Estate, Tudun Yanlihidda, Sabuwar Unguwa, Rahamawa Abattoir, Makera Housing Estate, Barhim Housing Estate, and the Bayin NYSC Camp Community.”

Tingling further assured the public that the entire project followed due process, with the procurement approved by the Bureau of Public Procurement. While many sections have been completed, others remain in the test-run phase in line with contractual obligations.

“We welcome constructive questions from citizens,” Tingling added, “But we must reject misinformation disguised as criticism. This project is a transformative milestone for Katsina.”
