In a bold move to transform healthcare delivery in Katsina State, Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda has finalised a major procurement deal with Siemens Healthineers in Germany, securing world-class diagnostic equipment for the state’s forthcoming Ultra-Modern Radiology Centre and Central Reference Laboratory.

The agreement was sealed following a technical working visit by Governor Radda to Siemens Healthineers’ global headquarters in Forchheim, Bavaria earlier this month.

During the visit, the Governor toured advanced research and manufacturing facilities, inspecting state-of-the-art technologies including high-field MRI systems, 128-slice low-dose CT scanners, digital radiography suites, and fully automated laboratory analyzers.

The equipment, currently undergoing final factory acceptance tests, is expected to be shipped to Katsina within weeks, marking a critical milestone in the state’s healthcare modernisation drive.

“Our administration is determined to give every Katsina resident access to cutting-edge diagnostic services without the burden of travelling hundreds of kilometres or bearing prohibitive costs,” Governor Radda stated during his address to Siemens executives.

He emphasised that the deal forms a cornerstone of his “Building Your Future” development agenda, designed to modernise healthcare infrastructure, improve clinical outcomes, and strengthen medical capacity across the state.

The Governor revealed that the procurement also includes a robust technology transfer component. Under the agreement, Siemens will provide specialized training for Katsina-based biomedical engineers and radiographers, while clinical experts will offer remote support via Siemens’ digital service platforms.

“This ensures long-term sustainability, minimal service disruptions, and affordability for everyday citizens,” Radda added.

The senior leadership of Siemens Healthineers hailed the partnership as a model for forward-looking healthcare investment in Africa.

They reaffirmed the company’s commitment to delivering the equipment on schedule, supporting local capacity-building efforts, and working closely with state authorities to maximise equipment utilisation.

Installation and commissioning of the new systems are set to begin in July 2025, with pilot diagnostic services expected to launch by October 2025.

This initiative is widely seen as a game-changer for the state’s healthcare sector, positioning Katsina as a leader in medical diagnostics in Northern Nigeria and significantly improving access to early disease detection and quality patient care.
