Police Arrest Man For Alleged Murder Of 60-yr-old Neighbour In Ebonyi

The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one Ezeoke Chidera for the alleged murder of his neighbour, a 60-year-old woman identified as Mrs. Awoke Rose.

The incident occurred on Monday morning in Egugho, Ezzagu community of Ishielu local government area of Ebonyi State.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the suspect allegedly attacked the elderly woman around 6a.m., striking her multiple times with a shovel and leaving her in a pool of her own blood.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Ebonyi State Command, SP Joshua Ukandu, in a statement said the suspect was promptly apprehended following a distress call to the police.

“On 02/06/2025 at about 0600hrs, we received a report that one Ezeoke Chidera, who lives in the same compound with Mrs. Awoke Rose, aged about 60 years, attacked her by hitting her several times with a shovel and abandoned her in a pool of her blood,” the PPRO said.

He added that officers of the command were able to apprehend the suspect who was undergoing investigation to unravel the motive behind the brazen attack.

“The body of the deceased has been deposited in a morgue, while investigations continue to unravel the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident,” the statement said.

A community source added that the incident has thrown residents into panic, adding that normalcy has been restored in the area.
