Minister Inaugurates NEDC Mega School In Yobe

The minister of state for Regional Development, Alhaji Uba Ahmadu Maigari, has inaugurated a mega school built by the North East Development Commission (NEDC) in Potiskum, Yobe State.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the four blocks of one-story building contain 96 classrooms for primary and junior secondary school sections.

Other structures in the school include the administrative block, store, staff quarters, commercial centre, clinic, pharmacy and emergency room.

Speaking at the occasion in Potiskum, Ahmadu commended the NEDC for the gigantic project, which was in line with the North-East Stabilisation and Development Master Plan.

According to him, two similar schools were also constructed by the commission in Gashua and Buni Yadi towns of Yobe State.

Also, speaking, the executive director of Finance and Administration, Dr Garba Illiya, disclosed that the project was sited at Arikime School, which was the most populous school in West Africa.

 

“I want to use this opportunity to inform you that, the school has a population of over 18,000 students, Arikime is the largest school in Nigeria and even West Africa,” he added.

 

Garba said that the management of the commission, about two to three years ago, was told that the school runs three shifts in the morning, afternoon and evening.
