In a bold move to address youth unemployment and economic recovery in the post-lockdown era, BNB Global Innovations Limited, in collaboration with the John Bosco Institute of Technology, has officially flagged off the Nigerian Youth Employment Skills through Acquisition Fund (NYESAF) masonry training programme.

The flag-off ceremony, held at the institute’s training facility in Abuja, marked the beginning of a six-month intensive skill acquisition programme aimed at empowering young Nigerians with practical expertise in masonry. The initiative, supported by the Federal Government and the World Bank, is part of a wider effort to promote economic independence and reduce poverty among Nigerian youth.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Samuels John, Training Programme Manager from A-BNB Global Innovations Limited, traced the rationale behind the programme to the harsh economic realities experienced in the aftermath of the COVID-19 lockdown. He noted that the economic downturn exposed the urgent need for alternative empowerment models.

“In response, the government, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, has structured this skill acquisition programme to serve as a gateway to economic self-reliance. With masonry as the focus, this initiative will equip beneficiaries with in-demand, marketable skills,” he said.

Also addressing participants, Rev. Fr. Mark Anthony Okpala, Training Director at the John Bosco Institute of Technology, encouraged trainees to maintain high standards throughout their learning process. He stressed the relevance of masonry in national development, especially within the booming real estate sector.

“Do not compromise on quality. The nation stands to gain when skilled artisans take their craft seriously. This is your chance to contribute meaningfully to economic growth,” he urged.

In a moving address, a female beneficiary, Ms. Bilikisu Rabiu, expressed gratitude to the government and stakeholders for extending such an opportunity to women. She highlighted the importance of inclusivity and empowerment for all, noting that her training in masonry has opened a new chapter in her life.

“I am truly grateful for this opportunity. This training is not just about laying bricks—it is about laying the foundation for a better future,” she said.

The NYESAF training programme is expected to train hundreds of youths across various technical and vocational areas, with masonry as one of the pilot sectors. Stakeholders said the initiative will play a crucial role in addressing youth unemployment and improving livelihoods across the country.
