The federal government has reaffirmed the safety and continued accessibility of the Mokwa bridge in Niger State, assuring the public, especially motorists and transporters along the Mokwa road corridor that vehicular movement remains uninterrupted despite recent flooding concerns.

The director general of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, gave the assurance during an assessment visit to the Mokwa flood site yesterday.
He emphasised the government’s commitment to maintaining smooth traffic flow and addressing any issues that could disrupt this strategic route.

Issa-Onilu noted that proactive measures are being taken to preserve the integrity of the road network and ensure public safety.

“The federal government is aware of public concerns and is actively implementing measures to mitigate disruptions. There is no cause for alarm; the bridge remains safe, and movement along the route is not affected,” he said.

The NOA also warned against panic buying and hoarding petroleum products, cautioning that such behaviour could lead to artificial scarcity, disrupt supply chains, and endanger lives and property.

The agency urged Nigerians to go about their normal activities without fear, assuring them that relevant government agencies are closely monitoring the situation and responding swiftly where necessary.

It emphasised that routes connecting key northern cities – including Kaduna, Abuja, and Sokoto- remain fully operational.

Citizens were encouraged to report any concerns to the appropriate agencies for prompt action, as part of a collective effort to safeguard public safety and national infrastructure.
