Tech billionaire Elon Musk has claimed that the United States government was withholding the full release of the Epstein Files because President Donald Trump was named in them.
The files in question refer to documents held by the US Department of Justice related to the late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, who was accused of trafficking underage girls to powerful men.
Musk, who offered no evidence or details to support his claim, did not specify how he gained access to the classified documents.
“@realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public,” Musk posted on Thursday via X (formerly Twitter), signing off with the cryptic jab, “Have a nice day, DJT!”
Until last week, Musk served as a senior advisor to President Trump and headed the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a polarising federal body created to cut bureaucracy, which led to the elimination of thousands of public sector jobs.
His abrupt departure from the role has since sparked a wave of pointed criticisms.
Just days ago, Musk blasted Trump’s latest tax and spending legislation, branding it a “disgusting abomination,” LEADERSHIP reports.
Trump, for his part, responded via Truth Social on Thursday evening, “I asked Elon to leave. He was wearing thin and going CRAZY!”
