Yobe State Varsity Secures MDCN Accreditation, Targets Medical Tourism Hub Status

The College of Medical Sciences at the Yobe State University and its Teaching Hospital have secured full accreditation from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) marking a crucial step and achievements towards the state’s ambition to become a leading destination for medical tourism in Nigeria.

Governor Mai Mala Buni, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Baba Malam Wali has while speaking during the MDCN’s exit meeting, emphasized his administration’s vision to raise the state’s healthcare services to globally competitive standards.

Buni who expressed confidence that Yobe will be a medical tourism hub in Nigeria reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to addressing the few deficiencies noted by MDCN assuring continuous improvements in the university and its teaching hospital.

The Governor commended the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Bukar Jamri, along with the management of the institution and hospital, for their dedication and patriotism in securing the landmark accreditation.

MDCN Deputy Registrar, Dr. Nnaemeka Nwakanma, who led the council’s delegation, expressed satisfaction with the infrastructure and academic environment, confirming that the university and its teaching hospital met the council’s standards.

Nwakanma encouraged the state government to continue supporting the institution in resolving the minor issues identified during the assessment.

Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Bukar Jamri praised Governor Buni’s consistent support to the institution, noting that the governor’s commitment to education and healthcare had played a pivotal role in the university’s progress.
