In a show of compassion and inclusivity, the Bauchi State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has brought festive cheer to the Bauchi Correctional Centre inmates by donating cooked food and essential supplies as part of Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
Presenting the items, Governor Bala Muhammad, who was represented by the permanent secretary of the ministry, Barrister Saratu Jibrin, said that the gesture was aimed at enabling inmates to feel the joy of the festive season and to remind them that they remain part of the larger society, regardless of their current situation.
“This is not just about food; it’s about showing empathy and giving these individuals a sense of belonging. We urge them to see this phase as a divine test and use the time to reflect and reform,” she said.
The visit was marked by the distribution of cooked packaged meals, soap, and other daily essentials, all intended to boost the inmates’ morale during the religious holiday. In addition, Governor Bala Muhammad personally donated a cow and other supplies to support the prison’s Sallah festivities.
The officer-in-charge of the Bauchi Correctional Centre, Deputy Controller Abdulrashid Saleh, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the governor and the ministry and assured that the donated items would be fairly and efficiently distributed among the inmates.
“We deeply appreciate this thoughtful gesture. It goes a long way in reminding the inmates that society has not forgotten them,” D.C. Saleh stated.
The initiative is part of the state government’s effort to promote rehabilitation and humane treatment of inmates, especially during religious and cultural celebrations.
