The president of IlorinLikeminds Foundation, a non-governmental organisation, Alhaji Muhamed Alakoso, has decried the rising rate of cultism and other related social vices across Nigeria.

Speaking at the Foundation’s annual lecture in Ilorin, Kwara State, Alakoso called on parents to take greater responsibility for the upbringing of their children.

He stressed the importance of proper monitoring of the youths by the parents to curb the growing rate of cultism and negative behaviour among the youths.
Alakoso restated the group’s commitment to designing programmes that will promote the good image of Ilorin and its people.

He also urged members of the Foundation, especially the youth, to remain united and foster positive relationships with one another.

“We must continue to uphold the values of unity, discipline, and moral integrity,” he said.
The keynote lecturer at the event, a former spokesman of the Kwara State Police Command, Mr. Ajayi Okasanmi, identified poor parental care and peer pressure as key drivers of youth involvement in cult-related activities.

Speaking on the theme, “The Menace of Cultism and Social Vices in Relation to the Moral Upbringing of Today’s Youths,” Okasanmi emphasised the crucial role parents play in the moral development of their children.

“ Parents, especially fathers, must not become strangers in their own homes. Regular conversations, proper guidance, and consistent monitoring of children’s activities are essential in preventing them from going astray”, he said .
