The Heart of Gold Support & Care Initiative has restated its commitment to continue to support indigent students in the country, saying it aims to expand its impact beyond the current base.

Speaking at the launch of its new brand identity in Lagos, the initiative’s founder, Ehiagwina Joy, said the initiative, which began 12 years ago with a simple mission to support indigent school children, has grown steadily into a multifaceted organisation dedicated to education, empowerment, and healthcare support.

She said, “I looked at the way the economy was then, and how do I make an impact in my little way? I have always believed that as a human being, you should do your part to make society a better place. So I started at the primary level, providing school uniforms and supplies to indigent children in one school. Over the years, it grew.

“The initiative supports between 100 and 150 children annually, providing essentials such as shoes, bags, and school supplies. In recent years, the foundation has also introduced an empowerment programme, teaching skills to individuals and equipping them with tools to become self-sufficient. A home-based committee conducts monthly follow-ups to ensure the support is practical and not misused.

Ehiagwina shared the inspiration behind the recent launch: “After our December outreach, many people reached out via social media asking how they could support this great cause. We realised people want to give but don’t know how, so we launched a media to tell the world about what we do and where we want to take the initiative.”

She said the foundation plans to expand beyond Edo state to support children and vulnerable people across Nigeria and potentially beyond its shores.

The chairman of the occasion, Patrick Anegbe, praised the foundation’s work and emphasised the urgent need for such initiatives in Nigeria.

Anegbe said, “Many intelligent people with great ideas cannot realise their potential due to poverty. Many children drop out of school because they cannot afford enrollment fees, and many people die due to a lack of basic healthcare. Foundations like this are crucial to addressing these challenges.”

Earlier, the managing director of Brand Dimension, John Akuwudike, explained the inspiration behind the new logo: “The golden heart design symbolises giving, healing, and enduring impact, core values of the initiative. The two interwoven sections represent connection and compassion, reminding us that true care stems from love and empathy. The golden hue signifies wisdom, generosity, and hope, elements that define the mission and legacy of Heart Of Gold Support & Care Initiative.”
