The Kano State Police Command has arrested 51 suspects and recovered dangerous weapons and illicit drugs during a three-day intelligence-led clearance operation targeting criminal hideouts across Kano metropolis.
The operation, which started from Friday, June 13 to Sunday, June 15, focused on identified flashpoints in Kano Municipal, Dala, Gwale, and Tarauni Local Government Areas—including Kofar Mata, Zage, Kurna, Rijiyar Lemo, Dorayi, Hotoro, and Sheka Quarters of Kano metropolis.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday, June 16, by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Hussaini Abdullahi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.
According to the statement, the suspects—mostly young men between the ages of 15 and 39—were believed to be involved in thuggery, street violence, and drug-related offences.
The police described the operation as part of ongoing efforts to stamp out thuggery (‘Yan Daba’) activities and restore sanity in the state capital.
“The State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, strongly warns against brandishing weapons in the name of traditional performances, including “Gangi,” as well as displaying dangerous weapons on social media platforms like TikTok, Facebook, X(Twitter), Instagram, etc. which encourages and recruits teenagers to engage in thuggery-related crimes,” the statement revealed.
The statement further emphasised that parents and guardians who aid or conceal such activities, as well as blacksmiths who produce dangerous weapons used in street violence, will be investigated and prosecuted accordingly.
