The Kwara State government, on Thursday, alerted residents of the state to a potential flooding in parts of the state.

The government, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, drew the attention of residents to the warning of the impending flood issued by the National Flood Early Warning Systems Centre in Abuja, based on projections of heavy rainfall in the coming days across several parts of the country.

“Although the alert identifies multiple locations nationwide, Jebba and surrounding communities in Moro local government area have been specifically listed among the areas at heightened risk within Kwara State.

“The warning coincides with the peak of the rainy season—a period often associated with intense downpours, flash floods, and related disruptions.

“While no emergency situation has been recorded in the state, the government is issuing this proactive notice to encourage early preparedness and responsible action by both residents and support agencies,” the government said in a statement signed by Ashaolu Omotola.

It advised residents living in low-lying or flood-prone areas to relocate to higher and safer grounds where necessary and avoid waterlogged roads and submerged areas during heavy rainfall.

The residents were also urged to clear drainage channels and water passages around homes and public spaces; stay informed through verified weather alerts and official announcements and report early signs of flooding, such as rising water levels or overflowing drain to local authorities or other designated response contacts.

“This public notice is part of the government’s effort to reduce potential risks and protect lives and property. Residents are urged to remain calm, alert, and take necessary precautions as rainfall conditions develop,” the statement added.
