No fewer than 17 awaiting trial inmates at the Nigerian Correctional Centre in Ado Ekiti have been granted pardon by the Ekiti State Acting Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Lekan Ogunmoye.

The acting chief Judge also granted bail to eight other inmates of the facility, saying the action as part of his constitutional duty to visit the correctional facility was aimed at decongesting the facility.

The Comptroller of Corrections, Mr. Femi Olorunshagba, during the visit was on hand to conduct Justice Ogunmoye round the facility.

Nearly 500 cases of awaiting trial inmates, consisting both males and females with offenses ranging from capital crimes to lesser offences were reviewed by the acting chief judge.

He granted bail to eight inmates, pardoned 17 inmates unconditionally after careful consideration, citing reasons such as advice from the director of public prosecutions, Mr. Julius Ajibare, lack of evidence or detention time beyond constitutional stipulated terms among others, while the bail conditions of one inmate were reviewed.
