NCAA Flags Off Maiden Sports Competition

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority has flagged off the maiden edition of the agency’s sport competition for the staff of the agencies working across the country.

The sport competition, a one week programme, tagged the ‘DGCA Sport Week’s is billed to commence on Monday and will last for one week.

Speaking at a press briefing on Saturday, the Director, Corporate Services of the NCAA, Dr. Becky Aghadinazu said the event will include competitions in football, badminton, chess among others.

 

According to her, ” DGCA, Capt . Chris Najomo came in with a lot of promises since his assumption of duty and one of them is introduction of sports week. It is starting on Monday. That Monday, we have a rundown of a lot of activities. We have a football match. We have badminton. We have handball, chess , tennis and a whole lot of them. All the staff from all the regions are involved. And at the end of the day, we have a gold medal. We have bronze. We have silver for different awards for the competitors. It’s starting on Monday, and it will end on Saturday and it will be taking place at Nigeria Air Force Base.”

 

Also speaking, the chairman of the NCAA Sports Club, Sowunmi Abdul-Rasak explained that adequate preparations have been made for a successful event.

 

He also explained that the competition is part of government’s efforts to ensure that workers are fit enough for their jobs after the office stress.

He said , “There is a body called Federal Public Service Games. It is a sporting body that has all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) as members. It is a national umbrella for sports for government workers, which NCAA is one of the members of the body. So it is an umbrella body related to sporting activities. So it’s on this premise that our Director General keyed into to ensure a balanced workforce in terms of the health, the wellness, unity and diversity, and ensuring a balanced workforce is maintained.

 

“This one, like my director said earlier, is going to be a yearly programme as approved by Director General of NCAA. We have put logistics in place, particularly in case of emergency. We have an ambulance station with paramedics and doctors stationed throughout the event of the programme from the morning to the evening.”

 

Also speaking, Director, public relations and consumer protection, Michael Achimugu said this is one of the ways the DGCA wants to fulfil the pledge of ensuring a balanced lifestyle for the staff of the agency.

 

He said the NCAA now has better health insurance packages for its personnel because healthy, productive regulators will make for a better industry.
