Two persons identified as Usman Muh’d and Ibrahim Inuwa, have been confirmed dead after a failed attempt to retrieve a mobile phone from a pit laterine at Bazabe Quarters in Albasu local government area of Kano State.

Spokesperson of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusuf, in a statement on Sunday, noted that the sad incident happened on Saturday, June 21, 2025.

He explained that the service men at Takai LGA immediately mobilised to the scene and arrived at about 11:16am, after receiving an emergency call from one Inspector Auwalu who reported the incident.

Yusuf said upon arrival, they found both men of about 40-year-old trapped in the pit – Muhd, who was the owner of the phone and Inuwa, who went in with the intention to help Muhd.

“Both lost consciousness and were unable to come out. Both of them were rescued unconscious and later confirmed dead,” he noted.
