In a renewed demonstration of leadership and regional solidarity, the executive governor of Yobe State and chairman of the Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum (LCBGF), Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has led a high-level strategic mission to the headquarters of the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) in N’Djamena, Chad.

A statement issued by the forum secretary, Dr Mohammed Goje, said the visit formed part of a critical follow-up to the 5th LCBGF meeting held in Maiduguri and focused on aligning implementation priorities under the forum’s 2025–2026 Action Plan and strengthening institutional coordination with the LCBC.

Governor Buni stressed the urgency of transitioning from resolutions to results, reiterating the forum’s determination to bolster regional peace and development through concrete actions.

The chairman said the measures include strengthening security via enhanced support for the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), expanding infrastructure and cross-border connectivity, unlocking new financing through the Regional Stabilisation Facility (RSF), and driving community-based reintegration of conflict-affected populations.

“We are determined to shift from rhetoric to reality. Our people deserve peace, opportunities, and a future free from violence and underdevelopment. This is our collective responsibility as leaders.”

He commended the validation of the Regional Strategy for Stabilisation, Recovery, and Resilience (RSSRR) and welcomed the rollout of climate-responsive initiatives such as the PARFEBALT project and a region-wide Early Warning System.

Governor Buni also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent approval for the reconstruction of key road networks within the Lake Chad corridor, describing it as a vital intervention to enhance regional trade and mobility.

As part of his mission, the Chairman paid a working visit to the MNJTF headquarters, where he and the LCBC executive secretary, Amb. Mamman Nuhu received technical briefings on the Action Plan’s key indicators and progress on the Forum’s resolutions.

While speaking, the governor of N’Djamena, Mrs Amina Kodjiana, and the LCBC executive secretary reiterated their unwavering support for the forum’s vision, pledging continued cooperation to advance peacebuilding, economic resilience, and shared prosperity throughout the Lake Chad region.

The engagement drew participation from senior officials, development partners, the Nigerian Embassy Chargé d’Affaires, and LCBC and LCBGF Secretariats representatives.
