Kano State Governor Kabir Abba Yusuf has hailed the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) for its steadfast commitment to unity and professionalism in the media industry.
Speaking through his deputy, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, at the NUJ’s 70th anniversary awards and gala night in Abuja, Governor Yusuf praised the union’s role in nation-building.
Governor Yusuf was also presented with the prestigious Media Supportive Award in recognition of his contribution to the growth of journalism and the promotion of democratic values.
“The union has achieved a great deal over the years, particularly in fostering unity among its members,” Gwarzo said while delivering the governor’s message.
The Kano State government, he added, is deeply grateful for the honour bestowed upon Governor Yusuf, noting that it reflects the administration’s unwavering support for the media.
Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, commissioner for information and internal affairs, announced in a statement issued yesterday to journalists that Kano State will host the next National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the NUJ.
According to the NUJ national president, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, Governor Yusuf was selected for the award due to his consistent support for press freedom, national development, and transparent governance.
Yahaya further applauded the governor’s commitment to accountability and leadership in creating an enabling environment for media practitioners.
