ABU Muslim Forum Demands Compensation, Justice Over Mangu Killings

The Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria Muslim Forum has called for urgent compensation and justice following the recent violence against Muslim commuters in the Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Forum’s secretary-general, Dr Munir Sani Ari, described the attacks as inhuman and provocatively unforgivable, stressing that the lives lost and property destroyed must not go unaccounted for.

Dr Ari demanded that the Mangu Local Government Council, the Plateau State Government, and the federal government provide “commensurate compensation” for the victims, based on their respective roles in the tragedy, whether by action or inaction.

He further urged conducting a “comprehensive and independent” investigation, with transparent prosecution and “punitive sanctions” strong enough to deter future violence.

The Forum also called on the Sabon Gari Local Government Chairman in Kaduna State, home to many of the victims, to actively seek justice and ensure the medical bills of the injured are fully covered.

Commending Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani’s condemnation of the killings, Dr Ari stressed that it must translate into meaningful action and not fade into “political rhetoric”.

He concluded by warning that the patience of the Muslim community has been stretched beyond its limits, calling for concrete, proactive measures to end the recurring violence across Plateau and other flashpoint regions.
