Key diplomatic envoys and global partners gathered in Abuja for the Diplomatic Conference 2025, a high-level forum focused on strengthening Nigeria’s foreign policy, multilateral engagement, and international cooperation for national development.
Hosted at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Conference Hall, the event featured the participation of the Deputy Ambassador of the European Union to Nigeria, Botswana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, representatives from the High Commission of Canada and the Embassy of Germany, as well as a Peace and Development Advisor from the United Nations system in Nigeria.
Organized by the African Transformer Institute (ATI) in partnership with the Center for Peace Advocacy and Sustainable Development (CEPASD), the conference brought together ambassadors, diplomats, parliamentarian, academics, youth leaders, and foreign policy experts under the theme: “Strengthening Nigeria’s Foreign Policy, Diplomacy, Multilateralism and International Cooperation for National Development.”
Throughout the event, speakers addressed pressing global issues, with a focus on how Nigeria can play a more proactive and influential role on the international stage. Topics discussed included youth-driven diplomacy, sustainable development, education, peacebuilding, and regional cooperation.
A key moment of the conference was the formal launch of the Diplomatic Assembly, a new initiative aimed at connecting young professionals, diplomats, and international relations practitioners to collaborate on advancing Nigeria’s foreign policy agenda.
Participants also engaged in a Diplomatic Simulation Exercise, where they took on the roles of Nigerian ambassadors to various countries and institutions, crafting bilateral and multilateral negotiation strategies aligned with Nigeria’s foreign policy interests.
Convener of the conference and Director of the African Transformer Institute, Igweshi Augustine, said the platform was designed to empower a new generation of diplomats and leaders who can represent Nigeria effectively on global platforms.
The Diplomatic Conference 2025 marked a significant step in integrating youth into Nigeria’s foreign relations ecosystem and highlighted growing international interest in supporting Nigeria’s global engagement efforts.
