Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed has donated the sum of N200 million as emergency intervention for communities affected by a devastating windstorm in Dass local government area of the state.
Governor Bala made the donation on Monday during a visit to sympathise with the people affected by the natural disaster.
He noted that the storm wreaked havoc across several communities, destroying homes, public buildings, and farmlands.
“The damage caused by this natural disaster is extensive. Communities such as Durr, Wandi, Bagel Bundot, and Dass town were severely impacted, with residents now in urgent need of support,” Governor Bala said.
As part of immediate government action, the govenor pledged N100 million in cash support and building materials worth over N100 million to assist in rebuilding destroyed structures.
He further directed emergency management agencies to expedite relief operations and also paid a condolence visit to the Emir of Dass, Alhaji Usman Bilyaminu Othman, in his palace.
Governor Mohammed expressed deep sorrow over the incident and reiterated his administration’s commitment to disaster preparedness and response.
He also promised to collaborate with the Federal Government and humanitarian partners to minimise the risk of future occurrences.
As part of measures to mitigate future disasters, the Governor instructed the Dass local government council to establish a shelterbelt in vulnerable areas.
Earlier, while briefing the Governor, Chairman of Dass local government, Hon. Abubakar Jibo, appreciated the swift response by the state government.
Jibo said the council had already begun preliminary assessments and mobilised local resources to provide immediate support to affected residents.
