Catholic women in Abuja have stressed their commitment to promoting the spiritual, social, and economic well-being of Abuja women through vocational skills training and care for widows and the vulnerable.

The president of the Catholic Women Organisation (CWO), Kubwa Chairperson Princess (Dr) Joan Jummai Idonijie JP, revealed this at the Abuja Archdiocese 2025 Day celebration in Kubwa over the weekend, saying their 10 strategic zones coordinate grassroots efforts and promote unity.

Rev. Fr. Victor Makinwa Ogunyemi, the Archdiocesan Chaplain, Catholic Women Organisation of Nigeria, Abuja Archdiocese (CWOAA), at the event, called on women to continue to play the role of mothers in the family and the church, and let them continue to support the work of God.

He said that as the backbone of the family, their roles cannot be replaced by anybody.

If given the chance, their large numbers should be tools of change for society and have a sense of purpose, like politics.

For her part, Nneoma (Mrs) Ebele Lilian Okoye said CWOAA is celebrating the day because mothers have many responsibilities to the family, church, and society at large.

“No matter how the economy is biting, women should stand firm to their faith, that the country is hard should not allow us to lose focus, we should go back to the family,” she said.

The event climaxed in the presentation of awards, including the award of excellence in humanitarian service and the pride of mothers award, to distinguished women and men whose recognition is meaningful not only for the honour they bring but also because they inspire continued service, bridge communities, and affirm the power of virtue-driven impact.
