President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have been told to forget Igbo votes in 2027 until the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, is released.

The All Igbo Youth Forum stated this at a press briefing in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, yesterday, just as they later celebrated Kanu’s victory at a Kenyan court last week.

Speaking at the forum, the president, General Chinedum Obilor, said the outcome of their demand would determine whether the people would vote for Tinubu and the APC in 2027.

According to him, contrary to claims by Igbo political leaders, Tinubu’s fate in the South East and other Igbo-speaking states would be decided by the youths in the election.

The one-time deputy chairman of Umuahia North local government area further urged both Tinubu and the APC not to be carried away by the wave of endorsements by Igbo politicians.

Obilor, generally called Fayose Ohuhuas, told Tinubu “not to be deceived by empty assurances by Igbo political leaders”, declaring that the forum had made its position clear.

“Our governors and members of the National Assembly are deceiving you. They claim to be in charge of Igbo land but are not. We, the youths, are the ones in charge.”

Over 300 youths from different states in the zone later held a peaceful procession through the capital, singing solidarity songs for Kanu, in response to some major stress.

The court, sitting in Milimani, Nairobi and presided over by Justice E. C Mwita, had on June 26 declared Kanu’s abduction and extraordinary rendition from Kenya to Nigeria “illegal.”
