The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State has declared that it has become a credible alternative to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections in the state.

ADC spokesman in the state, Chief Luckyman Egila, who disclosed this while addressing journalists in Port Harcourt yesterday, stated that the coalition was not about political survival, but Nigeria’s survival.

Egila said: “To the people of Rivers State, we declared: the ADC is now the undeniable third force and the only credible alternative to the sinking ships of the PDP and APC.”

He said in the coming days, the ADC Rivers State will roll out a series of stakeholder engagements, town hall meetings and mass mobilization programmes to solidify this alliance and present a transformative agenda to the people.

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Niger State suffered its first setback at the hands of ADC as Umaru Shuaibu, a key APC member, joined the coalition party.

Shuaibu was the state’s chairman of the defunct Congress For Progressive Change (CPC).

LEADERSHIP  Friday gathered that the resignation was a prelude to the movement of some CPC Legacy members from APC to ADC in building a strong coalition in the state .

In an interview with LEADERSHIP Friday via telephone after announcing his resignation yesterday, Shuaibu said that he dumped the party because the philosophy on which the party was formed has been eroded.

He said, “ I wish to announce to the good people of my Ward Bagama B Ward, the good people of Suleja Local Government, the good people of Niger State and Nigeria in General, that I have resigned from the All Progressives Congress – APC and joined the African Democratic congress- ADC.”

“My decision is not personal, but due to the loss of trust on the stewardship of the APC government as it concerns the welfare and well-being of Nigerians in general and the ordinary Nigerian citizen in particular” he added.

According to him “The APC government has betrayed the trust and its promises made to Nigerians, with its renewed hope transforming to a hopeless agenda.”

He said the deplorable situation started when the Government of Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced the removal of subsidy immediately he was inaugurated without recourse to consultation.

He said that at national level “ we agreed when the APC is formed that all legacy parties; ACN, CPC , ANPP, members from PDP and APGA should be carried along but now it is only ACN all the way”

Shuaibu said “Former President Muhanmadu Buhari had the same intention to remove subsidy but when he studied the situation after assumption of office he threaded softly in the interest of Nigerians who will bear the brunt”

He also said leaders of APC in Niger State were excluded from consultations about the party in the state.

“The situation is so dire that marketing the APC to Nigerians against any future election has not only become herculean but an impossible task. The reasons for leaving the APC are many,” he declared.
