A non-governmental organisation, Global Initiative For Women In Leadership (GIFWIL), has expressed commitment to continuous education, empowerment as well as physical and psychological health of Nigerians.

The affirmation was made by the organisation’s founder, Lady Sarah Umahi, during a Badminton Fitness for Good Health Tournament yesterday in Abuja.

According to Umahi, one of the most impactful moments of the event came during a mental health session led by Dr. James Iwowarri, who reminded everyone that health is not just physical but also mental and emotional.

The session emphasised the importance of recognising mental and emotional well-being as integral to overall health.

“Health is not just physical; it’s also mental and emotional,” Dr. Iwowarri said.

He also advocated regular physical activity as a vital tool for maintaining emotional balance.

Lady Umahi noted that through initiatives like the tournament, GIFWIL had continued to promote not only education and empowerment but also the physical and psychological wellness of individuals and families across Nigeria.

“The success of this event reinforces our belief that health-focused outreach can be fun, inclusive and deeply impactful. From warm-up routines to high-fives at the final match, the day was filled with energy, laughter, and a shared commitment to living better.

“As we look ahead, GIFWIL remains dedicated to organising more events that inspire healthy lifestyles, strengthen community bonds, and offer safe spaces for important conversations,” she said.
