The Google Developer Group (GDG) On Campus, recently hosted a transformative virtual masterclass titled “Blockchain Data Analytics for Beginners: The Essential Career Guide.” The event attracted a large digital audience of students, aspiring analysts, and tech enthusiasts eager to explore the rapidly growing field of blockchain analytics.

Leading the session was emerging thought leader in data analytics and Chief Data Analytics Officer at Eybrids, Dorcas Folasade Oyebode. Known for her work at the intersection of blockchain strategy, AI governance, and financial systems, Oyebode delivered a career-focused presentation combining deep technical knowledge with motivational insight.

According to Oyebode, “You don’t need a PhD to build a career in blockchain analytics. What you need is curiosity, consistency, and the courage to start. The blockchain revolution needs analysts, thinkers, and ethical builders.

Don’t wait to be an expert, start where you are and grow into the role you dream of.”

Throughout the hour-long session, Oyebode guided participants through core concepts of blockchain technology, including distributed ledger systems, decentralisation, consensus mechanisms, and cryptographic security. She quickly shifted from theory to practice, offering a practical roadmap for beginners to develop relevant skills and gain real-world experience.

Participants were introduced to essential tools such as SQL, Python, Tableau, and blockchain-specific platforms like Block Explorers. Oyebode emphasised how these tools could be combined with data storytelling techniques to unlock job opportunities in fintech, Web3, supply chain management, and digital security.

The session was structured into five foundational areas: Understanding Blockchain Technology; Foundations of Data Analytics; Building Technical Skills; Gaining Practical Experience through Projects & Hackathons; and Navigating the Job Market and Standing Out.

For many attendees, one of the most valuable takeaways was Oyebode’s emphasis on project-based learning and portfolio development. She encouraged participants to contribute to open-source blockchain projects, join hackathons, and build a visible digital presence to showcase their skills. “Certifications are great, but showing that you can apply what you know is what gets you noticed,” she said.

Beyond the technical depth of the session, Oyebode also spoke about the importance of inclusion and representation in tech. As a woman in a male-dominated field, she used her platform to inspire underrepresented voices, challenging them to see themselves as contributors to the future of blockchain and data innovation. “If you are passionate about solving problems with data, there is a place for you in blockchain analytics,” she affirmed.

The masterclass, organised under the GDG On Campus initiative, reflects Google Developer Group’s commitment to empowering young developers with industry-relevant knowledge and preparing them for the future of work.
