National executive president of the National Youth Organisation (NYO), Comrade Okorie C. Okorie, has charged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure adequate and timely preparations for the conduct of transparent, credible and acceptable general elections in 2027.

At apress conference in Abuja yesterday, Okorie said, “I stand before you today on behalf of the Nigerian Youth Organisation (NYO) to address critical issues concerning the future of our nation, as we approach the 2027 general elections.”

Okorie said Nigerian youths are ready to support INEC to achieve a hitch-free electoral process.

“We believe that a free and fair election is the cornerstone of our democracy, and we will not tolerate any form of manipulation or rigging in 2027,” he said.

He emphasised that any attempt by any individual, institution, or group to rig the forthcoming elections would be met with a united resistance from the teeming Nigerian youths.

Okrie urged INEC to take immediate steps to register new political parties which met its requirements to encourage a more inclusive and competitive electoral process.

He appealed to INEC to commence a nationwide voter registration to accommodate new voters, especially those who have reached the eligible voting age of 18, so that every qualified Nigerian can participate in the 2027 elections.

On the political situation in Rivers State, the NYO president commended the ongoing peace process being facilitated by the FCT minister and the suspended governor.

Okorie asked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take decisive steps to restore democratic governance in the state, stressing that the people of Rivers deserve peace, stability and good governance.

He said insecurity remains the major concern for all Nigerians.

“We call on all security agencies to work in synergy and with renewed commitment to curb insecurity in all parts of the country. The safety of Nigerian citizens, especially the youth, is non-negotiable.”

On the role of political parties, Okorie challenged them to develop and present youth-focused blueprints ahead of the elections.

“Political parties must roll out comprehensive programmes that address the aspirations of Nigerian youths. Parties that fail to do so will be ignored – it is no longer business as usual.”

He disclosed that the NYO had concluded arrangements for a roundtable meeting with the national chairmen of all political parties to present their youth-focused agenda.

“Any chairman who fails to attend this meeting will not only demarket their party but will also face the collective decision of Nigerian youths to shun and vote against such a political party.”

“We are ready to collaborate with INEC and offer our full support to facilitate a process that is transparent, inclusive, and credible. With the active involvement of Nigerian youths, the 2027 elections can set a new standard for democracy in our beloved country.”

Also, the national vice president for the South East Zone, Hon. Prince Fortune Chinonso, said the 2027 elections would not be business as usual.

“Nigerian youths will no longer allow themselves to be used by so-called politicians,” he stated.
